Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. Since the data exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing a website hosting account. The commands which could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the options are limited as you'll not have root access to the hosting server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. They are all actions which are executed within the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

SSH access is featured with all cloud website hosting that we offer. With some of them, it is offered as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade that you can include with a few clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You may get SSH access from the section dedicated to it in which you shall also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could select the password which you will use and, if necessary, you shall be able to modify it with a few mouse clicks from the same spot. All the commands which can be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you'll also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you can easily add it through the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even only for the current month. In any case, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with just one click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same spot, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you can type in the password that you would like to use, because it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you can also change it as much as you need. A complete list of the commands that can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a few examples. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this type of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content no matter which VPS servers you select when you sign up, since all of our plans provide this function as standard. You'll not have to add or allow anything manually - the instant your server is ready and you get the Welcome email with the login info, you'll be able to connect and begin working on your web sites or any software you want to install and run on the hosting server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account will be isolated from all the other accounts in the physical server, you shall be able to do anything you want with no restrictions. You can install any app which you need and which will work on a Linux-based server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases efficiently.
